The sixth grade has been busy investigating Thermal Energy and Heat. As we explored the transfer of heat, we designed solar oven and tried our hand at making s’mores. We used pizza boxes collected from our cafeteria and added aluminum foil and plastic wrap. We set our ovens up on the field and worked on other subjects as we waited for our s’mores to cook. We had mixed results. The chocolate melted quickly but the marshmallows did not get soft. We concluded that we should have cooked the s’mores longer or picked a warmer, sunnier day.

6th grade has gotten off to a great start! We’re learning about creation in Religion class. 6-307 created amazing newscasts of the days of creation and 6-303 is working on murals depicting each day.
7th grade Religion classes have been extending their knowledge of the Holy Spirit. Currently they are working on making pamphlets to share with younger students.
The 7th grade has been busy learning about DNA. We watched a short video and studied the structure of DNA. We worked on constructing a model of DNA. We began individually, then joined our pieces with our group’s, then the class joined their sections, and finally all three classes joined their DNA models. Currently it is hanging in Room 7-303. In addition to this we are extracting DNA from strawberries to see the long thread-like molecules.
